Newberry Road & Tioga Christmas

We were going to go to the Hawthorne Trail today, but there was a 30% chance of rain, so we rode down Newberry Road to the end. On the way back we stopped at Jonesville Wine and Liquor for Randy to buy Port, but they were having a tasting--had some killer hot buttered rum! And decided we wanted to come back for more tastings and to buy more than we could carry on our bikes.

And at 11 pm this evening we rode down every street in Tioga to see the pretty Christmas lights!

Oleno to Ichetucknee

Today was a beautiful clear crips day (mid 60's). Started riding at the beginning of the trail, outside Oleno Park on U.S. 441. Then the trail paralleled County Road 18 towards Ft. White. A beautiful, rural, but hilly (by Florida standards). On my cheapo Kmart special it was difficult; Randy seemed to glide along. At 7 1/2 miles I was afraid of going further for fear of not being able to ne

gotiate the "hills" back. However, going back was actually easier. We drove the trail to see what was further on, and discovered we had stopped just short of the town of Ft. White. So I could have gone much further probably without any problem. Next time. Most of the trail is in the sun; a few shady areas. Saw only 4 other bicyclists. Not many road crossings. Definitely will try again with my old bike--but look forward to trying it with a new bike in the near future.

Our first rails-to-trails was on the Nature Coast Trail. We began in Trenton, FL and rode 7 1/2 miles to Old Town and back again. The trail is flat and mostly runs alongside the highway. It's primarily in the sun.
